Scooter Rental in Bang Tao
Bang Tao is home to Phuket's longest beach, a stunning six-kilometre stretch of sand anchored by the Laguna Phuket resort complex. The area has evolved from a quiet stretch of coast into one of the island's most desirable neighbourhoods, with upscale beach clubs like Catch Beach Club and Xana, excellent international restaurants, and luxury villas scattered among the palm trees.
A scooter transforms your Bang Tao stay from resort-bound to island-wide. Ride north along the coast to discover Layan Beach, one of Phuket's best-kept secrets with almost no development and calm turquoise water. Continue further to Nai Yang and the national park beaches near the airport. Head south and you reach Surin Beach in ten minutes, a gorgeous bay with great snorkelling off the rocks at each end.
The Laguna Phuket complex is a self-contained resort world with seven properties connected by a canal system. The area has its own infrastructure including wide roads, the Canal Village shopping area, and the Laguna Golf Course. While everything you need is within the complex, having a scooter lets you break free and discover the authentic Thai side of Phuket that resort guests rarely see.
Boat Avenue is the lifestyle hub of Bang Tao, located on the main road a short ride from the beach. This open-air mall has a good mix of restaurants (from Thai street food to Japanese to Italian), coffee shops, boutiques, a supermarket, and a weekend market. On Tuesday and Friday evenings, the Boat Avenue Night Market draws crowds with its food stalls, live music, and artisan vendors. It is more upscale than the typical Phuket night market.
The roads in and around Bang Tao are among the best in Phuket for scooter riding. The main road through the area is wide and well-maintained, and the Laguna internal roads are smooth and rarely congested. The coastal road heading north toward Layan is particularly beautiful, passing through a quiet stretch with mangroves on one side and glimpses of the sea on the other.
Skoot-verified shops in Bang Tao offer delivery throughout the Laguna area and north toward Layan, with prices starting from 150 THB per day. Weekly and monthly rates are popular with the long-stay guests who base themselves in the Bang Tao villas. The flat terrain and quality roads make this area especially comfortable for novice riders.
From Bang Tao, Phuket Town is about 30 minutes via the route past Heroines Monument through Thalang. The airport is 20 minutes north. Patong is about 30 minutes south via Kamala. Having a scooter based in Bang Tao means you can enjoy the premium resort atmosphere while having the freedom to explore the entire island whenever you choose.

Road Conditions in Bang Tao
Bang Tao has excellent road conditions. The main Srisoonthorn Road connecting to the highway is wide, well-paved, and has clear lane markings. The Laguna internal roads are smooth and maintained by the resort complex. The access roads from the main highway down to the beach can be narrow and winding, with some steep sections near the Laguna entrance. The coastal road heading north to Layan is in good condition but narrows to a single lane in some sections. Heading south toward Surin, the road climbs over a small headland with some curves. Traffic in Bang Tao is light compared to the central west coast areas, and the flat terrain around the Laguna complex makes for easy riding.
Parking in Bang Tao
Bang Tao has generally easy parking conditions. Boat Avenue has a large free parking area for motorbikes near the main entrance. The beach clubs along Bang Tao Beach (Catch, Xana) have their own motorbike parking areas. Within the Laguna complex, most resorts have designated scooter parking near their entrances. Layan Beach has informal free parking at the beach access road. If visiting the Boat Avenue Night Market on Tuesday or Friday evenings, arrive early as the parking area fills by 6:30pm. Along the main Bang Tao road, roadside parking is generally fine on the wide shoulders.
Where to Get Fuel in Bang Tao
The main fuel station for the Bang Tao area is the PTT station on Srisoonthorn Road near the Laguna entrance, which is the last reliable stop before heading north to Layan. There is also a Bangchak station further east on the main road toward Heroines Monument. Between Bang Tao and Layan Beach, there are no stations, so always fuel up before heading north. A couple of small automated fuel dispensers exist near the Laguna entrance. Heading south toward Surin, the next station is in Kamala.
Best Time to Visit Bang Tao
Bang Tao is wonderful from November to April during the dry season when the beach is calm and the beach clubs are in full swing. The Boat Avenue Night Market on Tuesday and Friday evenings is a year-round highlight. Early morning is the best time to ride north to Layan Beach, when you will have the pristine sand almost to yourself. During high season (December to February), Bang Tao's beach clubs and restaurants are busy and it is worth booking ahead. The monsoon months (June to September) bring bigger waves and greener landscapes, with significantly lower accommodation prices and uncrowded roads.
Safety Tips for Bang Tao
Bang Tao is one of the safest areas in Phuket for scooter riding. The flat terrain, wide roads, and light traffic create easy conditions even for beginners. The main caution is the narrow access roads to the beach area, where resort shuttle buses and delivery trucks can be encountered on tight turns. Within the Laguna complex, watch for pedestrians and cyclists on the canal roads. The headland road toward Surin has some curves that require attention. Police checkpoints in the Bang Tao area are uncommon but do appear occasionally on Srisoonthorn Road. Always wear your helmet and carry your licence.
