Scooter Rental in Kata Noi
Kata Noi is a small, exquisite beach tucked into a cove just south of Kata, separated from its larger neighbour by a rocky headland. The name means 'Little Kata' in Thai, and that perfectly captures its character: all the beauty of Kata Beach condensed into a more intimate setting. The beach is about 700 metres long, backed by lush hillside vegetation, and has some of the clearest water on Phuket's west coast.
Kata Noi is notable for being home to The Shore at Katathani and Katathani Phuket Beach Resort, two properties that occupy much of the beachfront. Despite this, the beach is public and accessible to everyone. The southern end has the best snorkelling during the dry season, with colourful fish visible in the shallow water around the rocks. The northern end connects via a walking path over the headland to Kata Beach.
Having a scooter in Kata Noi is almost essential, as the beach is somewhat isolated. The access road drops steeply from the main coastal road to the beach level, and walking to Kata centre for shops and restaurants takes about 20 minutes uphill. With a scooter, you can zip up to Kata's restaurants and amenities in two minutes, ride to Karon Viewpoint in three minutes, or head south toward Nai Harn and Cape Promthep in fifteen minutes.
Karon Viewpoint (Three Beaches Viewpoint) sits just above Kata Noi on the road heading south toward Nai Harn. From this elevated lookout, you can see all three beaches, Karon, Kata, and Kata Noi, laid out before you with the Andaman Sea stretching to the horizon. It is one of the most photographed spots in Phuket and is at its best in the early morning or late afternoon light. The viewpoint has a small parking area, a few souvenir stalls, and a drink vendor.
The road continuing south from Karon Viewpoint descends through jungle toward the southern tip of the island. This is one of Phuket's best scooter rides, a winding coastal road that passes through lush tropical forest with occasional ocean glimpses before emerging at Nai Harn. From there, the entire southern loop, including Yanui Beach, Windmill Viewpoint, and Cape Promthep, is accessible.
Skoot delivers scooters to the Kata Noi area from 150 THB per day. The beach is ideal for visitors who want the beauty and snorkelling of the Kata area without the crowds of the main beach. The small scale of Kata Noi means it retains a peaceful atmosphere even during peak season, making it a favourite of repeat Phuket visitors who know the island well.
During monsoon season (May to October), Kata Noi gets significant waves that attract surfers. The beach has a steeper profile than Kata, and the break can be powerful. Red flags indicate dangerous conditions. Outside of surf season, the calm water and clear visibility make it one of the best snorkelling spots on the west coast.

Road Conditions in Kata Noi
The main coastal road past Kata Noi is well-paved and in good condition, with the section from Kata to Karon Viewpoint recently resurfaced. The road is hilly with some steep sections and curves, but visibility is generally good. The beach access road descending to Kata Noi is steep with a hairpin turn at the bottom; the surface is good but demands controlled braking. Heading south from Karon Viewpoint toward Nai Harn, the road winds through jungle with moderate hills and some narrow sections. Traffic on this stretch is light. During monsoon season, fallen leaves and occasional debris can make the road surface slippery after rain.
Parking in Kata Noi
Kata Noi has a small free parking area at the bottom of the beach access road near the Katathani resort entrance. This fills up quickly during high season. A secondary option is to park along the roadside at the top of the access road near the junction with the main coastal road, where there is more space. Karon Viewpoint has its own small free parking area at the top. Along the main coastal road between Kata and Karon Viewpoint, there are occasional pull-off spots with space for a few bikes.
Where to Get Fuel in Kata Noi
Kata Noi has no fuel stations. The nearest is the PT station on Patak Road in Kata, about a 3-minute ride north. There is nothing to the south until Rawai, which is about 20 minutes away. Always fuel up in Kata before heading south. If planning the full southern loop (Karon Viewpoint to Nai Harn to Promthep to Rawai), start with a full tank.
Best Time to Visit Kata Noi
The dry season from November to April is when Kata Noi is at its absolute best. The sea is calm, the water is crystal-clear, and snorkelling off the southern rocks is excellent. This is also when the beach is most accessible for swimming. The monsoon season (May to October) brings powerful waves and currents that make swimming dangerous but attract experienced surfers. For photography at Karon Viewpoint, early morning and late afternoon light is best. The beach is quietest on weekday mornings year-round. Sunset from Karon Viewpoint above Kata Noi is stunning, though riding back in fading light requires caution.
Safety Tips for Kata Noi
Kata Noi is a safe area for riding with light traffic. The main safety concern is the steep beach access road, which requires careful braking on the descent and steady throttle on the ascent. The coastal road has curves with limited visibility in places. Watch for tour buses on the road to Karon Viewpoint, as they take up most of the road width on curves. During monsoon season, the beach has strong currents and rip tides. Always respect the red flag warnings. The road south toward Nai Harn can be slippery after rain due to fallen leaves. Police checkpoints are very rare in this area.

Riding Tips for Kata Noi
The access road to Kata Noi Beach is steep. Use a low gear going down and be careful of the sharp turn at the bottom. Coming back up, maintain steady throttle and stay in the left lane.
Parking at the beach is limited. Arrive before 10am during high season to secure a spot near the sand. Alternatively, park at the top of the access road and walk down.
The southern rocks at Kata Noi have excellent snorkelling during calm conditions (November to April). Bring your own mask and snorkel as there are no rental outlets on the beach.
If the beach looks crowded, ride 3 minutes up to Karon Viewpoint, take photos, then continue south to Nai Harn where there is always more space.
